Autistic Pride Day

The Autistic Pride Day, which takes place on June 18th, raises concerns and celebrates people with autism's similarity and uniqueness. People with autism are able to advocate for themselves, which is the most notable feature of Autistic Pride Day.

#autisticprideday

Autistic Pride Day was initiated by Autistics to celebrate Autistic ways of being and to encourage Autistics around the world to meet, embrace their Autistic identities, and amplify Autistic voices everywhere.

Autism is and isn't based on inaccurate stereotypes, media representations, and historically inaccurate measurements and criteria of what Autism is and isn't.

This week, it's about Human Rights and specifically the right to be ourselves on our own terms. Autistics should be able to stimming freely, engaging in own ways, and not being required to adhere to neurotypical norms should be able to comply with neurotypical requirements. The Autistic ways of being are valid, and members of the Autistic community should never be seen as broken Neurotypicals. We are different, not less. Because of the historical inaccuracies and misinformation out there, Autistics face stigma, mistrust, and persistent mistrust at school, work, and in our homes and communities all year long.

Autistic Pride Day is a worldwide celebration of Autistic Pride Day, helping each other to feel comfortable sharing in our own ways, whether verbally or with Alternate and Augmentative Communication (AAC), and in particular to amplify the voices of those who are multiply marginalized within the Autistic Community. On this journey, listening to non-speakers and focusing more on the voices of Black, Brown, and LGTBQIA+ Autistics are all important. Without us, there should be nothing about us.

For those, today is OUR day to celebrate our truths and live authentically, and for those that wish to be understood throughout society, the hope is that by identifying our Authentic Autistic community, we will be well understood throughout society.
