National Missouri Day
We recognize each state in the order they entered the union, beginning with Hawaii and ending with Hawaii on the week of Independence Day. We feature a small portion of each states' past, foods, and the people who make up the state. Of course, several states hold their own state holidays. There's so much more to explore that we can't help but celebrate our beautiful country even more.
Missouri is also known as the West's gateway, and two major rivers border the state. The Mississippi River is on its eastern border, while a portion of the Missouri River is along the western border. As a result, Missouri is ideally located as a hub of transportation and trade in the state. Interestingly, the state of Missouri has the name Show Me State.. Willard Duncan Vandiver, the Missouri congressman, has been lauded for coining the term. However, missourians today use the word as a characterization of their character.
Maine became a free state and Missouri became Missouri as part of the Missouri Compromise, allowing Maine to enter the state as a free state and Missouri to enter with no restrictions on slavery. Missouri was divided between the North and South during the Civil War. Half of the state was serving the Confederacy and the other half was serving the Union as a result of this.
The state has a number of cultural attractions, from riverboat cruises to music festivals to tours of the country's largest brewing company. Missouri became a stopping point for many migrant west, with a rich past and interesting people.. Some people stayed while others moved forward, while others moved on. Sadly, some returned east.
