The day marked a turning in the US's view of World War II. The Japanese attack destroyed several battleships, permanently sinking both the US Arizona and US Oklahoma. However, others capsized, carrying crew members with them. The USS Utah was one of the US Utah's most notable ships. The assault also hit naval vessels, killing an aircraft. The attack brought the United States into a war that had been raging for two years as a result.
