National Read Across America Day (dr. Seuss Day)

Each year, National Read Across America Day, Dr. Seuss' birthday, is celebrated on March 2nd. The annual festival is held as part of Read Across America, the National Education Association's initiative on reading. On the first school day, the day is observed on the second lands since the festival is intended to foster reading in children and is fostered throughout the schools.

This motivational and awareness day is calling for all children and youth in every community around the United States to celebrate reading. It encourages them to read wherever they are at anytime. The following are three great ways to spark reading in children:

  • Keep books where you spend time. Put them in the car, in every room of the house, and tuck them in backpacks and purses. Make them easily available. Make them easily available
  • Visit the library often. Visit the library often. Knowing how to use the library and discovering the benefits of a library fosters a love of reading as well as a genuine admiration for the library's services
  • Get to reading. Get caught up on the latest news. Children imitate what the adults around them do. If they're reading a magazine, newspaper, or novel, let them know that reading is the cool thing to do
  • Read to your children. Reading aloud improves their vocabulary and language skills, regardless of their age. It also opens up discussions
  • Have your children read to you as well You never know what you will learn!
