Many may not recall ever hearing the term "nylon stockings" ever being used. A nylon stocking (also known as hose) is a close-fitting, highly elastic garment worn the same as socks or tights, and it varies in color, style, and transparency.

Stockings made before the 1890s were made of woven cloth such as cotton, linen, wool, wool, or silk.. Women's stockings were worn for warmth before the 1920s. Women began wearing stockings over their exposed legs as the hemlines of women's dresses increased in the 1920s.. These 1920s stockings were bare, made first of silk or rayon, then nylon after 1940, and then nylon after 1940.

In 1939, Chemical company DuPont's introduction of nylon in 1939 ignited a high demand for stockings in the United States. Up to 4 million pairs would be purchased each day as nylon stockings were cheap, reliable, and shear.

The world war ii and beyond is fought in ii and elsewhere, as well as elsewhere

DuPont stopped producing nylon stockings and shifting its attention to the manufacture of parachutes, airplane cords, and rope on February 11, 1942, as America entered World War II. This resulted in a mass shortage and a black market for stockings.. DuPont resurgently produced the stockings after World War II, but they were unable to satisfy the demand leading to nylon riots in American stores. DuPont was able to raise its output in time.

The first pantyhose appeared in the 1940s and 1950s in the 1940s and 1950s. Stockings were sewn to actresses and dancers' briefs, as seen in popular films such as Daddy Long Legs.. Pantyhose did not have to worry about a garter belt to hold the stockings up unlike stockings.

Pantyhose were first introduced in 1959, providing a quick alternative to stockings that resulted in a decrease in their sales. For the first time since, pantyhose sales in the United States exceeded stocking revenues in 1970, and have remained the same ever since. Due to the newly invented hold-ups, pantyhose sales dropped slightly in 1987.. However, they are still the most expensive type of hosiery.
