Gardening on its own is therapeutic, builds muscle, and burns calories. Weeding, digging, spading, planting, pruning, mowing, raking, and walking are all examples of the gardening activities that are great for muscle workouts and for burning calories.
Many of us are unaware of the amount of healthy exercise we can get while gardening outside in the garden. It involves a lot of walking back and forth as well as bending up and down as well as other activities. An added benefit is being out in the fresh air and sunshine. Incorporating stretching into a gardening routine can help prevent injury, as well as any athletic pursuit. Adding those squats will help with muscle building or retaining muscle, and extra steps may make gardening more enjoyable, as it raises the heart rate. Gardening and exercise are both great stress relievers.
Start your muscles by pulling those weeds, planting some seeds, and getting your muscles moving! Your garden will be stunning, and you will be ecstatic, too.
Other ways to get the most exercise out of your gardening: These are just a few ideas for getting the most exercise out of your gardening:

- Both use the right and left hands. Switch hands every 5-10 minutes to give each side a good workout whether raking or shoveling
- Make sure you're able to breathe. Deep, cleansing breaths bring oxygen to those working muscles
- Lift your legs! Lift with your legs! Bend your knees when lifting. Don't lift with your back
