History

Mrs. Richards' life as a naturalist and educator is inspired by other wildlife enthusiasts, botanists, and scientists.. So, the Board of Directors of Beavers: Wetlands & Wildlife in 2008 selected her birthday, April 7, for International Beaver Day. "Coexisting with Beavers" DVD on the first International Beaver Day, the organization produced and distributed one-thousand copies of the "Coexisting with Beavers" DVD on the first International Beaver Day.

More than 100,000 visitors came to her house, where two beaver families lived in a row.. My Years Building an Animal Sanctuary As part of her life work to enlighten the public about this vital yet shy species, Beaversprite wrote Beaversprite, My Years Building an Animal Sanctuary.

After Dorothy Richards' death in 1985 to continue her educational pursuits, her friends and professional associates of the "Beaver Woman" Dorothy Richards founded Friends of Beaversprite, a non-profit that continues her educational efforts.
