The cake is more popular on National Chocolate Cake Day, and more people love it. We bake our special occasions such as anniversaries, birthdays, and weddings more often than not. Why not enjoy chocolate cake on January 27th every year?
Chocolate was primarily consumed as a snack until the 1830s or 40s in the United States. Chocolate cakes, as we think of them today, are not common then.. The chocolate cake was invented in 1765 by a doctor and a chocolate maker who joined up in an old mill, according to the Dover Post. They ground up cocoa beans between huge millstones to produce a thick syrup. The liquid was poured into molds that looked like cakes, which were supposed to be turned into a drink. Eliza Leslie, a well-known Philadelphia cookbook author, published the first chocolate cake recipe in 1847 in The Lady's Receipt Book, a popular Philadelphia cookbook author. This dish called for chopped chocolate rather than chocolate cake, which we all know today. Sarah Tyson Rorer and Maria Parloa, among other cooks of the time, contributed to the chocolate cake's creation and were prolific cookbook writers.
In the late 1920s, O. Duff and Sons founded the first boxed cake mix. In 1947, Betty Crocker introduced their first dry cake mixes.
