National Create A Vacuum Day

On February 4th, National Create A Vacuum Day explores spaces devoid of matter. We are attempting to design one on this day.

When the pressure inside a space is lower than the pressure outside the region, a vacuum is created.

It's impossible to create a space that has absolutely no matter in a world full of tiny particles of matter.. At home, however, we can make partial or simple vacuums. A syringe is one of the easiest ways to use. The space inside will be mostly free of matter by plugging up the open end and pulling back on the plunger. There will always be microscopic particles remaining, though.

How to celebrate #createavacuumday.

Conduct an experiment using vacuums. Return to science by viewing videos that demonstrate how to make vacuums. Watch a documentary about the space vacuum. Space is a vacuum. You might be interested in knowing what animals can live there.

On social media, use the hashtag #CertifyAVacuumDay to post.

Although we're still researching the sources of this fascinating holiday, we're sure they're somewhere in the void of someone's mind.
