National Kansas Day

Starting the week of Independence Day and ending with Hawaii. We feature a small portion of each states' past, foods, and the people who make up the state. Several states have their own state celebrations. There's so much more to explore that we can't help but celebrate our beautiful country even more.

As the nation expanded, generations of travelers came to Kansas. All the highways in Kansas pointed westward, from the Corps of Discover in 1804 to the Pony Express.

Rapid settlement came to the territory, but with it came the divisive decision for citizens regarding statehood. Is Kansas free or slave? The territory gained the name "Bleeding Kansas" before entering the union on January 29, 1861 as the 34th state and free.

The railroads, ranching, cattle, and agriculture all increased along the railroads, ranching, cattle, and agriculture. The Kansas farmland state was named the Breadbasket of the World because of its verdant, fertile soil.

Frank L. Baum even described farm life for one young girl named Dorothy in his books about a place called Oz. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz brought the world by storm, especially when Hollywood cast Judy Garland, Ray Bolger, Jack Haley, Bert Lahr, Bert Lahr, Margaret Hamilton, and Billie Burke appeared in the film. No place like home, no place like Kansas, and certainly no place like home.

Topeka, Kansas, one of the most pivotal decisions in Civil Rights history, was made. Brown vs. the Board of Education was argued before the Supreme Court of the United States in 1954. The final decision had started with groups of parents and teachers in all-black schools in communities around the country, and had now culminated in a final decision. The Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution was divided, but equal broke the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution.
