Marco Polo travelled to China on the Silk Road, and the logistics industry first took form. Future traders and retailers traveling between Europe and China were able to fly between Europe and China thanks to his detailed written record. The invention of the "horseless carriage" semi-truck in 1896 changed how freight moved around our country. In 1910, the first air cargo flight took place just 14 years later. The first container ship sailed from New Jersey to Texas by 1956, and the flight between Dayton and Columbus dramatically increased the speed with which goods could be delivered in the United States. Shipments have forever changed how commodities moved around the world. These innovations show how logistics connect the world – and always have.

Today, logistics costs in the United States account for over 8% of everything we produce and sell today.. Packaging, warehousing, shipping, and more are among the items that can be included in this category. The third-party logistics (3PL) industry – those that help businesses effectively manage logistics across their supply chains (from 3PLs to truckers to warehouse managers – represents an $800 billion industry on its own.

National logistics day has a long tradition in national logistics

In 2019, Logistics Plus Inc established National Logistics Day to celebrate the growing logistics industry's vital, expanding logistics industry.
