Mascots have been around for more than 130 years. The word mascot comes from the French word La Mascotte. We derive the word mascot from the French word La Mascotte. A mascotte is a woman or girl with mystic powers and the ability to bring good fortune. The character in the French opera by the same name is a farm girl.. The opera opened in 1880 in Paris, followed by additional productions around Europe.

The Age, a London new paper, November 11, 1882 sports article, announced a football match between Middlesborough Association and a newly formed team called La Mascotte on November 11, 1882. Mr. W.E. Gregory, a One player, dressed up in costume. The article doesn't detail the player's clothing, but it does mention that he obtained a nickname from the female members of the crowd. Gregory is also praised for his work on the field, according to the story. Was he the first sports mascot?

Well, sports are full of good fortune charms, jinxes, and ritual.. The first mention of sports mascot appears in baseball in 1883 in the United States. According to The Dickson Baseball Dictionary, a boy with the team named "Chic" had a reputation of bringing good fortune to the players.

Mascots these days come in a variety of styles and characters. They not only do they stir up the fan base, but they also entertain. Other mascots educate and assist us in finding our favorite spots..
