History of the national miner's day in the United States
The centennial of the worst mining accident in history in Monogah, West Virginia, on December 6, 1907, is the anniversary of the worst mining accident in history. 362 miners were killed in the accident, which resulted in the deaths of 362 miners. Congress declared in 2009 that the day would be observed each year on December 6th.
