National Nougat Day
On March 26th, a soft and chewy, or in some cases hard and crunchy candy often found in a candy bar, is commemorated on National Nougat Day.
There are three main types of nougats: Including:
- White nougat – made with beaten egg whites and honey – is made with beaten egg whites and honey.
- Brown nougat is made without egg whites and has a firmer, often crunchy texture, and is made without egg whites.
- Chocolate and nut praline, chocolate and nut praline, or German nougat praline – chocolate and nut praline.
Modern candy bar makers in the United States use a different technique than the traditional nougat.. They produce a mixture of sucrose and corn syrup aerated with a whipping agent such as egg white or hydrolyzed soy protein or gelatin. It is the most commonly used ingredient of large candy companies because it is easy to make and used as a filler.
