Douglas Adams' book Towel Day honors the work of the author best known for his book The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, which is observed annually by fans of Douglas Adams.

"A towel is about the most useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have," The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy says.

And that's incredibly important. Also we mere Earthly hitchhikers need towels for several very useful uses.
