During the hour of observance, the day encourages the promotion of nonviolent activities.

The first Universal Hour of Peace was conceived by Dr. Barbara Condron of the School of Metaphysics. On October 24, 1995, the world commemorated the first Universal Hour of Peace. It fell on the 50th anniversary of the United Nations and the autumnal equinox. At Noon GMT on January 1st of the following year, it was pushed to January 1st.. From 11:30 p.m., it is now celebrated. m. on December 31st to 12:30 a.m. January 1st is the first day of January 1st.
