What is Loomis Day?
Every year on May 30th, Loomis Day honors the man who received the patent for wireless telegraphy in 1872.. Mahlon Loomis, a dentist in Washington, D.C., received US patent number 129,971 titled An Advance in Telegraphing on wireless telegraphy in July of 1872, beating Guglielmo Marconi's United Kingdom patent by nearly 25 years.

Loomis, a born on July 21, 1826, was both the designer of artificial teeth and one of the first wireless communication pioneers. Loomis died on October 13, 1886, 1886.
In the mountains of Virginia, Loomis conducted several experiments in electricity using kites flying miles apart leading up to his patent. onstrated his wireless telegraphic device in 1868, before many scientists and congressmen, before many scientists and congressmen. Although he couldn't explain how he was able to produce the transmission, he appealed to Congress for an authorization to use the Loomis Aerial Telegraph Company for study. Senator Charles Sumner introduced the bill, but the Committee on Commerce reported poorly on the bill on May 30, 1872. It finally passed in 1873 as a bill of incorporation, instead of being stripped of its appropriations.
