"the Bambino" and "the Sultan of Swat" were nicknamed "the Bambino" and "the Sultan of Swat" in Baltimore, Maryland, 1895. He appeared for three clubs from 1914 to 1935, spending 22 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB).
Babe Ruth's baseball career began as a Boston Red Sox pitcher. When the New York Yankees bought his 1919 contract, he became a full-time right-fielder. He was one of the league's most consistent hitters, winning seven pennants and four World Series titles for the Yankees.
Ruth set career records for home runs, slugging percentage, runs batted in, and on-base plus slugging during his career, including home runs, slugging percentage, runs batted in, and on-base plus slugging. He was the first player to reach 60 home runs in a season in 1927.
Ruth retired in 1935 after a brief stint with the Boston Braves. Ruth was selected as one of the first five players to be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936.
