What is National Blueberry Muffin Day?

On July 11th, National Blueberry Muffin Day gives us a great reason to get up in the morning and celebrate!! Americans adore their blueberry muffins so much, it's their number one favorite muffin flavor. Whether it's for breakfast or a snack, blueberry muffins are melt-in-your-mouth delectable.

Consider the powerhouse the blueberry is when enjoying a delectable blueberry muffin.. This once-wild berry became domesticated in the early 1900s thanks to Elizabeth Coleman White's observations and Dr. Frederick V. Coville's study. Wild blueberry berries were never successfully transplanted and raised in any farming operation for personal or commercial production before their efforts. Fresh blueberries could only be enjoyed fresh blueberries if they were grown naturally.

Today we can enjoy the abundant potassium, vitamin C, and B6 as well as other health benefits of the blueberry much more readily than they did 120 years ago. We bake them into muffins and eat them by the handfuls. Blueberries are so likable that we're celebrating blueberries as a popsicle, cheesecake, and a popover day! Don't forget, July is also National Blueberry Month.
