Initially, the day urged people to listen to the tales centenarians had to tell. A wealth of information was available through their rich history and wisdom. As the anniversary of centennials, organizations formed to honor centenarians in a variety of ways. Often, listening to their personal lives proves the age-old's belief that with age comes wisdom.
According to recent 2019 estimates, there are approximately 72,000 centenarians in the United States alone. The youngest of those were born after the end of World War I and the signing of the Treaty of Versailles. They represent a living history with tales that were otherwise unhearded in history books. Their stories are animate and complement what we already know. Listening to their tails of achievement and perseverance highlight and expand the events of the past.
Their personal histories, at the same time, make something legendary for those who hear them. Traditions that people no longer use or turns of word have migrated through their memories to be revived and shared once more. Traditions that people no longer use or turns of phrase are no longer understood or shared once more. They gazed at their eyes, observing tribulations and experiences long forgotten. We all benefit from every story they tell and every remembrance they share.
