What is National Detroit-style Pizza Day?
Join the celebration born in the birthplace of the American Automobile and Motown, on June 23rd. The first paved road in Detroit has been recognized since Buddy's Pizza first introduced the square-cut pizza style in 1946 in the city that also gave the Mustang a name, as well as the Mustang. And Detroit-Style Pizza is certainly Detroit's finest contribution! And Detroit-Style Pizza is arguably Detroit's best contribution!

What makes it Detroit-Style? It all starts with the crust – deep and thick in composition but also light and airy in taste. Unique shape and one-of-a-kind flavor are given to the steel square pans (borrowed from the car industry). The toppings are laid backward, implying that they lay the gourmet pepperoni directly on the hand-stretched dough. Next comes a generous layer of Wisconsin Brick Cheese, which extends all the way to the pan's edges. The resulting caramelized cheese gives an incredibly crisp crust. The top is finished with racing stripes of tomato sauce.
Detroit-Style Pizza has expanded beyond Buddy's to become a national phenomenon that can be found from Brooklyn to Denver to Los Angeles.
