Marshmallow Creme, Archibald Query of Somerville, Massachusetts, invented a sweet marshmallow-like spread in 1917. wflake Marshmallow Creme in 1913, Emma and Amory Curtis of Melrose, Massachusetts, 1913. And then they published a recipe for a peanut butter and marshmallow creme sandwich, the first known example of a Fluffernutter.
In 1920, Query sold his Marshmallow Creme to Durkee-Mower, Inc., who renamed it Marshmallow Fluff. They continue to sell it under that brand today, over 100 years later.
Where did the word "Fluffernutter" come from? Well, the Durkee-Mower advertising company developed it in 1960 in an effort to successfully sell the peanut butter and marshmallow sandwich.
