To National Junk Food Day, a huge menu of items is dedicated to National Junk Food Day on July 21st. Each year, the day allows us to chow down on the foods we normally don't include in our daily diet.. Junk foods, by definition, typically have high fats, sugars, salt, salt, and calories, with no nutritional value.
With the introduction of packaged foods in the late 1800s, junk food made its way into American life. Still, home-cooked meals have remained the norm for several decades. The artery-clogging industry flourished after World War II. Since the population ate out more and traveled further, the industry was expected to produce more at an increasing rate.
Consumers flooded the market, from the frozen food aisle to fast food franchises. Prepackaged and ready to go, potato chips, baked goods, and so much more packed supermarket shelves.
Junk foods were well-known in the 1970s, but not so good one. Michael Jacobson, a microbiologist, is credited with coining the term.. He also set out to reduce our appetite for the high sugar, high sodium, and high preservative foods that Americans consumed at an alarming rate.
