Each year, National Pack Rat Day encourages us to take a look at ourselves and see if we have "Pack Rat" tendencies within us. A Pack Rat continues to collects or hoards of often unnecessary items.

According to Meriam Webster, the term pack rat refers to a wood rat that is used for hoarding food and random objects.. The word is loosely used today to describe people who do the same.

Many people also identify themselves as pack rats because they hold things they may need in the future, such as tools, boxes, and clothing. Have you ever cleaned out a nearest and critically examined every piece, tossing and donating so that you had a clean space? To find one particular item you donated or discarded, you returned or discarded it in the days or weeks after. It may be a paper or a container, but it never fails to happen. Pack rats consider every part of their toss and donate in the era of recycling, reusing, and repurposing.

The observance is a chance for the pack rat in any of us to investigate our collecting habits. Do we really need t-shirts from 1975? Do we really need t-shirts from 1975? When was the last time you used the L wrench that came with the pre-fabricated entertainment center you no longer own? Of course, if you sort through those toys and donate them, your only child will announce you're going to be grandparents. You didn't stick to those pack rat tendencies long enough.
