What is National Science Fiction Day?

Science fiction as a genre, its creators, history, and various media outlets, as well. Millions of science fiction enthusiasts around the United States read and watch their favorite science fiction titles every year on January 2nd.

The birth of celebrated science fiction writer Isaac Asimov is commemorated on the date of the festival. Isaac Asimov, an American author and Boston University professor of biochemistry, was born Isaak Yudovich Ozimov on January 2, 1920. He is best known for his science fiction and his popular science books. Isaac Asimov, whose works are followed by many, died on April 6, 1992.

Asimov, along with Robert A. Heinlein and Arthur C. Clarke, was one of the "Big Three" science fiction writers during his lifetime, considered a master of hard science fiction. Many regard the Foundation Series as Asimov's most notable work. The Galactic Empire Series and the Robot Series are two of his other major series.
