Arab traders brought spinach into India and later introduced it into ancient China, with the belief that it originated in ancient Persia. It was also known as a "Persian vegetable" in the United States. In a Chinese paper, the first known record of the spinach plant was discovered. It was reported that the spinach plant was imported into China via Nepal.
