A thrift store is a retail store that sells gently used items (also known as a thrift store, charity shop, hospice store, second-hand shop, consignment, or resale shop). Typically, charitable charities manage the stores to raise funds in accordance with the organization's stated charitable cause. Some of the items may also be used to assist others in getting back to their feet after a disaster or when times have been difficult.

The majority of items are donated by the public, while volunteers work the stores. Since the items were donated, the prices have been reduced to a lower price to the buyers.

People bring their used items into sell in a consignment store. The consignment store keeps a share of the proceeds when the product is sold.
