What is Russian Language Day?

Every year, Russian Language Day honors the seventh most spoken language in the world on June 6th. Aleksandr Pushkin, a Russian poet who is considered the father of modern Russian literature, is also recognized on the day.

There are over 150 million native speakers of Russian in the world, making it Europe's most spoken language. Around 113 million non-native Russian speakers are also available. Altogether, there are 267 million people in the world who speak Russian.

Russian is the official language of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan, and is considered a Slavic language. Russian is the primary language of former Soviet countries outside of these countries.
