What is Towel Day?

Douglas Adams' book Towel Day honors the work of the author best known for his book The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, which is observed annually by fans of Douglas Adams.

"A towel is about the most useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have," The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy says.

And that's incredibly important. Also we mere Earthly hitchhikers need towels for several very useful uses. We dry our furry dogs and roll towels in neat rows, which are then divided into logical rows. They help us get the kinks in our necks on long trips. And after going for a dive, even our tiny humans use them to cool down. Despite this, perhaps not very well. On a sunny day, it will also provide shade.

To sport, towels in small amounts have been useful. Golfers and bowlers use them. In a war to surrender, add a small towel to a footballer's hip and call it a flag or wave a white one.

If there is an emergency, a towel will stop bleeding or carry the wounded. It can also cool a fever. On a cool day, wrap it around you.. Wash a car or wipe up the oil. For a toga party, a really large towel would be sufficient. However, in reality, it probably wouldn't.
