What is World Emoji Day?
The World Emoji Day and several of the world's symbolic icons for digital calendars are commemorated on July 17th. The day is a holiday. We're encouraged to use emojis to send personalized messages.

There were emoticons before the emoji was introduced. Emoticons (emotion + icon) was created as an emoment in the cold hard texts that were uninitiated of them.

Apple's first iPhone launched in 2007 had an emoji keyboard embedded into the phone to nab the Japanese market. Although not meant for American customers to find, they did and quickly learned how to use it.
