What is World Nutella Day?
What happens when hazelnuts and chocolate collide, is commemorated on World Nutella Day. For example, millions of people celebrate on February 5th each year.
It is often said that necessity is the mother of invention.. Adding hazelnuts when cocoa is impossible to obtain may have been an Italian trick during difficult times. They made a paste of chocolate and hazelnuts in Piedmont, northern Italy's northern city, in the 1800s, when the nuts were plentiful, but the cocoa was not.
Cocoa was once more difficult to come by at the end of World War II. Pietro Ferrero, the Pastry Maker, made loaves of this sweet paste and named it Giandujot.. The Ferrero Company was established on May 14, 1946, shortly after.
Ferrero didn't make the paste into a spreadable form until 1951. When Ferrero's son Michele gave the jar of creamy hazelnut and cocoa the name Nutella, we didn't even know it by name until 1964.
