What is World Obesity Day?
Every year, World Obesity Day, encourages people around the world to take action against the obesity epidemic. It's also a day to raise obesity awareness, encourage advocacy, reform policies, and share experiences.
Obesity affected more than 650 million adults in 2016, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). That number is closer to 800 million today, rather than 800 million. This number has tripled since 1975. Adults with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or more are classified obese. One of the many effects of obesity is poor health.
