When is National Glazed Spiral Ham Day?

Saturday April 15th

Every year, National Glazed Spiral Ham Day is celebrated on April 15th, a new and delectable dish. This gourmet-looking dish, often served at a holiday dinner, was born in Harry J. Hoenselaar's basement.

NATIONAL GLAZED SPIRAL HAM DAY - April 15

The ham glaze was also invented by the Detroit, Michigan entrepreneur in 1952. His revolutionary device made it possible for the entire bone-in ham to be cut in a single continuous and even spiral.. The result was not only great for baking, but also for serving. The resulting slices made a delectable main course dish. HoneyBaked Ham was founded by Hoenselaar in 1957.

Many firms now sell glazed spiral hams since the patent was expired in 1981. However, we continue to thank Harry J. Hoenselaar for making them a possibility.

A traditional glazed ham is baked with a glaze made of sugar, honey, or orange juice. Spices are often added to taste.
