William Frawley made its debut on October 15, 1951, starring Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz, Vivian Vance, and William Frawley. With the first film and scripted program performed before a live audience, the program created a new television experience. The actors appeared for free after literally knocking a hole in a concrete wall, resulting in theater seating for the once-banned fans. The new look and I Love Lucy received five Emmy Awards and received numerous accolades, as well as numerous nominations.
I Love Lucy was the most-watched program in the United States in four of its six seasons. Firsts on television The sitcom was a world of television firsts. And it didn't even end on a first. The I Love Lucy show became the first to end its run at the top of the Nielsen charts. The sitcom was ranked as television's second best show of all time by TV Guide in 2002, and it landed on TIME Magazine's "Best TV Shows of All Time" list in 2007.
