World Hydrography Day
World Hydrography Day, on June 21st, emphasizes the importance of surveying and charting bodies of water. The day also encourages the general public to learn more about hydrograph science.
It's a well known fact that 71 percent of the earth is covered with water. Although most of the earth's water is found in oceans, rivers, swamps, glaciers, and aquifers, the majority of the water is also found in lakes, rivers, swamps, glaciers, and aquifers. In the form of water vapor, it also exists in the air. Water is essential for a variety of reasons. Without water, humans, and animals could not survive. We also use water for irrigating crops, keeping the environment clean, and providing recreational opportunities.
Water also plays a vital role in transportation. Scientists need to know how to navigate the earth's waterways, so scientists find out specific details. Ships and other vessels can navigate the waters safely and efficiently with this information. This falls under the science of hydrography.. The details these scientists are looking for include: The following links are links to the following: The information these scientists are looking for includes:
- Water depth
- The seafloor and coastline are shaped by the seafloor and coastline. The seafloor and coastline are shown on the map
- Possible obstructions can be found in the location of potential obstructions
- Water bodies' physical characteristics Water bodies' physical characteristics Water bodies' physical characteristics.
Scientists use all this data to create nautical charts. These charts cover 95,000 miles of shoreline along the coast of New Jersey. In addition, the charts cover 3.6 million square nautical miles of water in the United States alone. Hydrography also helps in other areas, such as transportation and navigation. Seafloor construction, anchoring, recognizing fish habitats, and laying pipelines and cables are all common topics.
How to celebrate #worldhydrographyday
Every year, the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) hosts a variety of activities based on the annual theme. Workshops, educational seminars, and conferences are among the programs that are included in these programs. To participate: To participate: To participate: To participate: You must register: To participate:
- Learn more about hydrography and the benefits of this science
- On the internet, there are some nautical chart posters
- Do some educational activities with your children, such as the build a boat challenge or making a compass, are among the many educational activities that can be done with your children
- Watch a documentary about water, such as Liquid Assets: The Story of Our Water Infrastructure or Watermark, on YouTube. Watermark is a trademark of Liquid Assets
With #WorldHydrographyDay, you can post this day on social media. #WorldHydrographyDay is on Facebook.
The world hydrography day is the first in history.
In 2005, the IHO established World Hydrography Day. The United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution that recognized the establishment of this day in the same year. The date of June 21st coincides with the founding of the IHO in 1921 under the name International Hydrographic Bureau.. In 1970, the IHO was renamed.
This day's theme has included: The following are past themes for this day::
Hydrography 2021: One hundred years of international cooperation in hydrography, 2021.
Hydrography is enabling autonomous technologies in 2020. Hydrography is enabling autonomous technologies.
2019: Hydrographic data fueling marine research.
Bathymetry, 2018 – the foundation for healthy seas, oceans, and waterways.
2017: Mapping our oceans, oceans, and waterways – more important than ever.
