  • Dirty – This Martini uses olive brine or juice from the olive jar
  • In the Martini, the vermouth has been reduced drastically, and gin has taken the primary spirit. The ratio is even higher if you add extra dry tips
  • Gibson – Bartenders garnish the Martini with a pickled onion instead of an olive
  • Stirred vs. Stirred – Most bartenders will tell you that the better Martini is stirred. Shaken Martinis tend to be inferior for a variety of reasons, including ice chips, down the drink, and shaking the Martini adds air to the cocktail. Martini's results in a smoother, fuller experience
  • This Martini can be shaken or stirred, but it is strained and served without ice, the opposite of a Martini on the rocks
  • In this Martini, Scotch whisky replaces the vermouth, whether you're smoking or Burnt. The glass is garnished with a twist of lemon garnishes
  • Wet – This one has less vermouth, but this one has more
  • Twist – The bartender adds a thin strip of citrus peel to the Martini as a garnish or in the drink

Shaken, stirred, is on the rocks, so here's what you need to order traditional Martinis.

The Martini's popularity increased as the James Bond films debuted in the late 1960s. Clear spirits such as vodka surpassed aged spirits like bourbon in market share in the late 1980s. However, a balancing act seems to be taking place in recent decades.

Over the years, the classic Martini has inspired a number of other cocktails, including the Cosmopolitan, chocolatini, or appletini.
