Use #WorldOceansDay to track the day on social media.

To see numerous and beautiful ocean creatures, do an internet search of photographs to find diverse and stunning ocean creatures. The National Geographic website is one place to visit.

The next time you go a stream, river, lake, or ocean, make sure you clean up after yourself and volunteer for a local beach cleanup since garbage, biota, and bacteria from local streams end up in the ocean.

History

The model was first introduced in 1992 by Canada's International Centre for Ocean Development (ICOD) and the Ocean Institute of Canada.

At the first World Oceans Day in 1992, the aim was to move the oceans from the sidelines to the forefront of international discussions and to raise the voice of marine and coastal constituencies around the world.

On June 8th, the closest weekend, the week, and the month of June, World Oceans Day activities are being held. The day is commemorated in a variety of ways, including launching new campaigns and initiatives, special events at aquariums and zoos, outdoor explorations, aquatic and beach cleanups, educational and conservation action activities, film festivals, and sustainable seafood festivals.

Since 1996, the World Oceans Day Youth Advisory Council has been leading conservation education and action campaigns around the world.
